Following a career as an Estimating Engineer, I have spent the past four decades working in close collaboration with smallholder farmers, investors and agrifood stakeholders in Australia and within the South Pacific region achieving ethical, sustainable and organic coffee production. My key commitment in establishing Tanna Coffee in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, has been aimed toward inclusive and sustainable coffee growing, processing, roasting, marketing and value-addition exports. Under my leadership, Tanna Coffee has dramatically grown from only a handful of smallholder farmers to more than 1000 registered farmers in 25 years. Not only has my new approach to farming and innovative methodology successfully improved quality and increased productivity, but it also empowers people, preserves the local environment and increases smallholder farmer incomes.
