Terry Baum is a slightly world-renowned lesbian playwright. She has toured internationally as a solo performer, and lectured at universities in the U.S. and South Africa. Four of Baum's plays have been published, produced all over the world, and translated into French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. DOS LESBOS, A PLAY BY, FOR & ABOUT PERVERTS, (1981, with Carolyn Myers) inspired the first anthology of lesbian plays (PLACES, PLEASE 1985), and offended the Pope during World Pride 2000 in Rome. Baum’s most recent solo play, HICK: A LOVE STORY, THE ROMANCE OF LORENA HICKOK & ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, was chosen a Fringe Fave at the 2015 New York International Fringe Festival and held over for the Fringe Encore Series. HICK is based on the 2336 letters that Mrs. Roosevelt wrote to Hickok, the most famous woman journalist of her day. A revival of AWAITING THE PODIATRIST was chosen Best of the 2016 San Francisco Fringe Festival and was part of the 2017 National Queer Arts Festival. This play uses songs and puppets to explore life-and-death choices in Intensive Care. Baum has toured as a solo performer in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Israel, South Africa, Cuba, and most recently Mexico. As a member of the duo Crackpot Crones, she and Carolyn Myers toured their lesbian feminist sketch comedy and improvisation in Mexico in February and March 2016. This was a project of Lilith Theater, as was HICK and PODIATRIST. Baum has lectured and taught playwriting and improvisation at Smith College, SUNY New Paltz, Sonoma State University, University of Redlands, Antioch College, Rollins College, and Witwatersrand University in South Africa. Baum ran for Mayor of San Francisco in 2011. She had a good time and made a difference. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
