After a successful session, I assisted the Finance team in translating initiatives into a set of budget requirements which were presented for approval to the BOD. New Market Growth Strategy & Due Diligence. Company was evaluating opportunity to move into an adjacent wealth management channel and needed a clear entry strategy. I established a dedicated project team and led efforts to size the market potential, understand inhibitors/ accelerants, and potential M&A candidates, ultimately identifying a path to $20B in incremental assets. When a high potential candidate was identified, I pivoted the team to support due diligence and opportunity sizing to support deal analysis. Upon successful negotiation and close, I led the initial post-merger planning effort to translate the synergies and key deal elements into an executable plan.Performance Improvement. Company wanted to evaluate its financial planning program and identify opportunities to enhance performance. My team led an effort to first diagnose the impediments to growth and benchmark high-performing financial planning practices at other firms. We translated these results into a full potential vision that identified nearly $2B (at minimum) in incremental assets. The vision included 14 differentiating capabilities we could implement in a phased manner.

AT&T spend of $90M.Rural Broadband Auctions- Auction 903 (Connect America Fund Phase II). Led overall analysis for participation and analyzed compliance and program requirements. - Mobility Fund II. Supported AT&T’s efforts to evaluate quality of 4G coverage maps submitted by providers. Our work highlighted all maps were significantly flawed leading to current changes underway at FCC to revise mapping process.

As a result of a new shared spectrum model, company needed to understand the implications of this on the efficacy of the spectrum. Led efforts to define AT&T strategy and position on new shared spectrum band. This included evaluation of the band’s potential for capacity offloading and 5G deployment, and educating multiple personnel on the pros/ cons of the band. Negotiated a set of guiding principles with senior network and regulatory leaders to inform our advocacy position and technology roadmap planning.Private LTE Strategy. In order to meet build requirements for an unused spectrum band, led efforts to lease unused spectrum to public utilities for IOT-based private LTE networks. Oversaw the lease planning process -- defining agreements with the legal team, addressing critical terms and conditions, and negotiating with potential customers. As a result of lack of supporting operational processes, orchestrated an internal coordination agreement and operational deployment processes between sales and network teams. Also negotiated with the adjacent spectrum owner to mitigate harmful interference and codified into a working agreement to allow the business case to proceed.New Technology Due Diligence. A new technology vendor claimed they had a 5G technology that was dramatically better than anything company currently had on its roadmap, and company needed to assess the claim. Worked with a senior technology expert at the firm to assess the technology claims while separately building an economic deployment model to compare unit costs. Resulting analysis demonstrated the technology was likely similar in technical capability to our existing roadmap, but had a significant deficiency in deployment costs. Company did not pursue the technology.

Client wanted to better understand the emerging application economy and participation options. Developed a comprehensive sizing and framework of each market segment, with a breakdown that identified logical adjacencies for the telco. The resulting work became a Top 10 priority for the CEO to grow the business and led to dedicated resources and funding.Telecom M&A Due Diligence, Private Equity firm. Client was evaluating buying public distressed debt of a wireless firm and wanted to understand the value of the firm. As part of a comprehensive due diligence effort, led work evaluating the network assets of the firm, highlighting their value to a potential acquirer. Team successfully forecast the acquisition of the firm and the buyer with the resulting return to the client being 300x of consulting fees.
