Facilitates the safe and expeditious movement of marine traffic by enhancing aids to navigation networks and the technological efficiency of national and regional projects. Develops plans and establishes AtoN program priorities for buoyage and fixed aids according to the provision directive and the established levels of service.Explores ways to improve work, technological advancement, efficiency, new standards and practices, and participates in the management and implementation of national and regional initiatives and projects. Monitors aids to navigation discrepancies, proposes solutions and assumes responsibility for their implementation to correct them.Recently I have successfully completed the IALA Level 1.1 AtoN Manager course, Module one and two were by distance learning, Module three was a dedicated 1 week residential course in Montreal with participants from across the country that are assigned to the Canadian Coast Guard, Aids to Navigation Program, as well as two participants from the USCG and instructors from IALA.

Currently leading a project that will modernize the methodology that provide aids to navigation in Canadian waters in order to facilitate safe and expeditious movement of maritime traffic to maintain maritime safety and to support the protection of the marine environment. The Aids to Navigation program assists mariners to navigate safely and efficiently and to facilitate maritime commerce and ocean development.

Delivery of technical expertise in the identification and mitigation of navigation threats through the design and review of aids to navigation systems and to the examination of their performance and reliability for navigable waters in Canada in order to ensure expeditious, efficient and safe movement of marine traffic and protection of marine environments.Designs, reviews and analyses the Marine Short-Range Aids to Navigation Systems, to maintain maritime safety, protect the marine environment, and to facilitate maritime commerce and ocean development. Study and analyze data, conducts in depth studies on site and table top related to the characteristics of waterways, assess navigational risks and their potential impact on mariners’ safety, propose risk mitigation measures in compliance with national directives and international standards. Provide expert advice on complaints, service request and marine incidents related to aids to navigation, provides expert advice, direction and guidance on aids to navigation issues to management and to other federal departments, agencies, public organizations, outside user groups and marine stakeholders such as pilotage authorities, port authorities, aboriginal groups, federal agencies, commercial shipping association, etc..

Operate vessels up to and including 44 feet in length. Responsible for the safety and security of crews when transporting to and from various remote work sites in all types of weather. Required to repair and maintain equipment in remote work areas.Operate and maintain commercial transport vehicles in accordance with WCB Regulations, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, and BC Trucking Association Standards. Operate and maintain two mobile cranes, and their lifting apparatuses.Instruct and certify personal in the safe operation of forklifts. Operate and maintain fleet of forklifts.Work with helicopters during flight operations (i.e. long and short lining operations).
