The BER software then uses this data to predict the remaining circuit board life. This information is used to schedule board replacement and maximize the use of circuit boards. The solution is made up of multiple applications that are both hardware and software specific. There are applications for the client-side functionality (6 applications -3 window services and 3 winform apps) , server-side functionality (5 applications - 3 window services, 1 web-based app, 1 web service) and firmware for the hardware interface (TI MSC1201Y3 and MSC1210Y5). Because there are so many applications with different responsibilities and interfaces, multiple development environment are used. This include VB.net, C#, ASP.Net, C/C++,VBscript, JavaScript and MSSQL T-SQL stored procedures. SQL Server 2005/2008 is the backend database. The application’s success led to an expansion of the original projects scope. Based on new reporting requirements from the oil field, maintenance and engineering departments, data marts were added to facilitate the integration of data from the BER application and other mission critical applications within the company. SSIS was used to collect the data from the many data sources, such as an Oracle database, XML files, Binary dump files, Excel spreadsheets and text files. I developed over 75 SSIS jobs and scripts, along with T-SQL stored procedures, and views to roll up the data into a normalized reporting database.
