Reporting to, and with the assistance of, the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for First Literacy, comprising its staff, programs, finance, fundraising, expansion, communications, and execution of its mission.Responsible for all programmatic, personnel, financial, operational, administrative, fundraising, marketing, and compliance aspects of the daily organizational management of First Literacy.Liaise with local organizations and coordinate the monetary and non-monetary contributions of diverse groups including the Board, Community Advisory Council, donors, staff, volunteers, and community groupsBuild and develop strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships between First Literacy and the Adult Basic Education providers that First Literacy supports through its programsImplement the Board’s Strategic Plan while ensuring First Literacy’s viability and fiscal accountabilityImplement effective processes to track program progress and outcomes, and regularly evaluate program components to measure outcomes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituentsOversee all aspects of First Literacy’s fundraising efforts including special events, grant-writing, major donor cultivation, and individual solicitation effortsProvide leadership in developing, executing, and monitoring fundraising plansDeepen and refine all aspects of communications and marketingEnsure appropriate representation, as a spokesperson, of First Literacy’s goals and objectives to community and corporate groups and other stakeholdersIdentify and develop new partnerships with business and community leaders with the goal of creating new fundraising opportunitiesDevelop and manage an external marketing plan to foster and spread First Literacy’s message, outreach, and donor expansion

Catholic Extension is a fundraising organization that supports the poorest areas of the United States • Created new funding opportunities for potential donors by building new relationships and networks and by structuring innovative and impactful strategic initiatives including: Young Adult Leadership Initiative, Latino Enrollment Initiative, and Facilities Management Training Initiative• Initiated partnerships with 10 organizations and universities, including Boston College, Fordham University, University of Notre Dame, and Newman Connection, resulting in eight new strategic initiatives, contributing to over $500K in impact revenue annually• Oversaw new Mission Immersion Program, designed to bring pastors from major metropolitan areas including Boston, Chicago, and New York, to poorer areas in the US, funded through a $1M grant from the Lilly Endowment• Coordinated and led staff and donor immersion trips to various parts of the country including Native American reservations, Appalachia, and the US-Mexico border• Created increased public awareness of CE through speaking engagements, working with Communications department to create magazine stories and web content, and writing blog posts• Supervised Director of Mission and Manager of Mission Programs• Served as a member of Leadership Advisory Committee• Established relationships and built a network among the 34 states that CE supports

Campus Minister, one-year interim assignment• Responsible for all details of Kairos Retreat Program, consisting of 12 retreats per year with 500 undergraduates participating• Recruited, interviewed, and selected staff and graduate retreat leaders, supervised student leadership team• Served as member of Campus Ministry Team

• Coordinated all aspects of two-year Confirmation program for 250 high school students• Organized monthly sessions, which included: inviting guest speakers, training Adult Facilitators and Peer Ministers to facilitate small groups, and communicating with parents• Responsible for all programming, outreach, and training of approximately 50 Peer Ministers each year• Trained teams of Peer Ministers to lead all aspects of retreats: giving talks, facilitating groups, organizing and leading all activities • Created a Leadership Council comprised of high school seniors• Led a service trip to Pass Christian, MS with teens and adults in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, resulting in donor support for a damaged church, as well as increased support of our own parish
