Beswick served as executive director of the GLBT Historical Society for nearly six years, and during that time more than doubled the organization's budget and expanded the museum and archival programs to more fully represent Northern California's diverse LGBTQ communities. Beswick also secured funding from the City and County of San Francisco to open a full-scale museum of LGBTQ history and culture in the city, which will be one of the first in the nation.

Executive leadership and direction of nonprofit volunteer-based community center providing drop-in services to LGBTQ people in recovery from alcoholism and addiction (under fiscal sponsorship of SF AIDS Foundation). Lead the organization in an eight-fold increase in annual operating revenue, eliminated a long-running deficit, spearheaded a capital campaign funded by small donations and in-kind contributions, and planned and implemented a complete renovation of the facility’s interior. Negotiated a ten-year lease with a new landlord, established a governing advisory board, staff and a large volunteer pool, and entered into fiscal sponsorship under the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Conducted public campaigns, including online and print materials. Recruited and supervised volunteers, staff and contractors. Oversight and hands-on administration of earned revenue programs, including on-site cafe and meeting room. Planned and executed fundraising projects, including off-site events, direct appeals, and grants. Responsible for development of annual operating budget, preparation of financial statements and accounts payable/receivable. Key programs include Job Training & Skills-Building, Social Support & Fellowship, Unstructured Peer Counseling, Recovery & Meetings, and Arts & Creative Expression. www.castrocountryclub.org

Co-founded nonprofit community theater group and successfully produced three full-length original works, with residencies at the Queer Cultural Center and Mama Calizo's Voice Factory. Beswick's first full-length play, "hotshot," won the SFSU James Highsmith Award for best LGBTQ play in 2008. His second play, "Strings," was named a best original play by a local playwright by the Bay Area Reporter in 2009.
