Stage Managing Opera in repertory requires one of my secret sources of satisfaction: creating order out of chaos. I am part of a team of stage managers at the Metropolitan Opera that helps to bring the vision of the creative team and the talents and expertise of the hundreds of performers and backstage staff together cohesively to perform opera. As with all jobs, there are always surprises, scheduling mishaps and things that don’t go your way. Juggling these surprises is all in a days work, and makes it fun. The job requires an attention to detail and to the big picture simultaneously. Finding a place for care and compassion for colleagues is very important to me.
