Terry Gill advises businesses on state and local taxation requirements, including representing businesses before state and local taxing authorities and in court. Terry also advised clients on a wide variety of statutory and regulatory matters including securities fraud, bank fraud, accounting fraud, antitrust. He has represented businesses in governmental investigations and enforcement proceedings by state attorneys general, SEC, DOJ, FBI, RTC, EPA and the FDIC. He has advised public and privately held clients on various state and regulatory and transactional issues including antitrust, corporate governance, securities law and tax.Prior to starting his own firm, Terry created and headed the state tax and Taxpayer Bill of Rights practice group in the office of the Colorado Attorney General. In that position, Terry supervised the Tax Unit which represents the state Department of Revenue litigating corporate income tax disputes and other matters. These matters typically involving multistate and international corporations. The Tax Unit also represents the state and its various agencies in advising on the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, including on structuring state entities, drafting enabling legislation and defending the state against TABOR and other constitutional challenges in state and federal court. Prior to his work with the State, Terry was an equity member of Sherman & Howard from 2001 to 2010. Prior to joining Sherman & Howard, he was an associate and then partner with Brownstein Hyatt & Farber P.C. from 1992 to 2001. He practiced at Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles from 1985 to 1991, and at the Los Angeles office of the New York firm of Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine from 1991 to 1992.
