It’s true that throughout my career, I’ve always been involved with some part of the construction industry. While self-employed as a general contractor, I taught myself the basics of the computer. I taught myself AutoCAD. Then I taught myself how to build a spreadsheet to figure out labor and material costs. Later, I learned Visual Basic, (certified MCP). I recently earned my Network+ and Cisco CCNA certifications. I was, and still am, enamored with anything IT. I am an “IT Guy”.In the last 15 or so years, working for Trus Joist and Weyerhaeuser, I’ve had the chance to wear several hats. I can give you a material take-off by hand, or using software programs. Mitek Sapphire Suite, AutoCAD, Javelin, PlanSwift, and Estima, just to name a few. I can tell you what size beam you will need to support your living room floor, and then which beam you should actually use. I am an Engineered Wood Products Specialist.However, my passion is software. Learning it, using it, and teaching it. I’m “that computer guy” who my friends and family call when their computer or software is acting up. I love teaching people something new and then watching for the “AHA moment”, the sudden epiphany of understanding the knowledge currently presented.
