About Terry Leigh Britton

Tell me who you are and why you want to connect so we can hook up with some common ground!Here is my short bio:Mr. Britton attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from 1972 through 1975 after completing an honors non-resident independent study program for a year. He was the first “non-visual” Fine Artist ever accepted as a full-time student at that school for his work in performance art, conceptual art, and electronic music creation and performance. He has co-founded, represented, or presided over several non-profit organizations for the Arts, including Biospheres in Boston, followed by near-namesake Artisphere in Cambridge, MA in the seventies, and then on to NYC with cohort Suzen at Art for the People producing large and huge art events there in the eighties. The nineties found him teaching hands-on science classes in five separate after-school programs in Connecticut that went on to influence the public schools to adopt hands-on science into their curriculums throughout the state. Concerned with “bridging the digital divide” in the later nineties for seniors and handicapped, he founded the Crystal Towers Computer Club in Winston-Salem, NC that influenced the Winston-Salem Housing Authority to implement similar clubs throughout the city, soon copied by first Burlington, NC, then Greensboro, and then spread to cities throughout the state. For this he was awarded the “Good Neighbor of the Year” award in 2003 by BellSouth in the club’s seventh year.Initially only for “continuing education” reasons, he returned to college and studied printing at Forsyth Technical Community College, but following his earning an associate degree with high honors and the school’s President’s Award, he was hired on to teach the same curriculum, which he did for the following five years, the first 2 as a 12-month adjunct, then 3 as a full-time professor with a similar 12-month contract.Now retired, Britton continues to engage himself in non-profit work, and his current stint as Chapter Chair of the Coastal Carolina chapter of Score caps off ten years of volunteer work with that organization. He currently mentors nineteen clients and has hundreds of former clients already helped who have started their own businesses. He now is working with the Woodstock Museum in Saugerties, NY as senior advisor and chief strategist toward the realization of their museum expansion, media sharing and archiving, and outreach goals.
