Terry led HTM’s financial turnaround and developed their strategy for reinvestment in marketing to increase top line and return firm to profitability for potential sale. During his tenure he spearheaded a strategic shift from cost-cutting towards increased front end marketing spend to enable company to grow the top line, and he led construction of multi-cohort/vintage models to increase focus on ROI. These strategies led to 50% revenue growth and $30M annual revenue in the last year of his tenure.

Healthline was a high-growth consumer healthcare startup. Terry was hired as Healthline’s tenth employee when their product was still in pilot phase. His responsibilities included fundraising, building financial models, establishing accounting functions and systems, and managing HR and legal.Terry led both Series A and B fundraising rounds with a combined $35M from investors that included VantagePoint, GE/NBC Universal, Kaiser Permanente, Mitsui, and Reed Elsevier. He oversaw the finance function and also built custom BI tools and dashboards as Healthline scaled to $10M in revenue and ~50 employees in two years.

Terry was hired in and FP&A role and was promoted to assume responsibility for treasury, M&A, and sales management support as MarketWatch transitioned to positive cash flow and net income by doubling revenue while enforcing cost discipline. Market capitalization increased from $75M to $540M at 2005 acquisition.Terry’s contributions included leading implementation of Hyperion Essbase and a custom BI solution to extend data-driven decision making and improve SOX compliance capabilities, developing forecasts and scripts for earnings calls, and driving M&A efforts for both public company acquisitions and the sale to Dow Jones as part of a four-way auction. He also drove a pivot in treasury strategy leveraging a laddering technique that optimized interest and provided sufficient cash flow for the firm’s needs, doubling yield on $70M and increasing annual cash flow by $1M+.
