I am a historical archaeologist, museum professional, and University researcher who believes that we must critically and collaboratively engage with the past to better understand our present, in order to build a better future. My vehicle for this type of work is collaborative, community-based archaeological and historical research and interpretation at historical museums, with a particular emphasis on exploring race, slavery, the Black experience, and its intersection with political thought. This work extends from work on plantations, cemeteries, and at institutions of higher education, both during and after enslavement. I am also deeply invested in the applications of digital tools for public education, interpretation, and collaboration, ranging from social media to interactive mapping to crowdsourcing.I am also an experienced field archaeologist, with years of experience working and designing archaeological field projects. This includes the adoption of digital tools for recording archaeological sites, the use of drone technology, GIS, and GNSS/RTK survey tools. I continue to explore new ways of identifying and documenting sites that include the public in the process.Lastly, I love working in teams, and building collaborative processes and systems for managing archaeological excavations, departments, and organizations. In addition to managing archaeological teams of upwards of 20 people, I have also served in leadership capacities on a handful of Boards and committees. I enjoy managing projects and people, and creating and learning new things through a collaborative and educational process.
