I am a founder and CEO of Capsifi, a software company focussed on intelligent business model innovation. Jalapeno, our cloud-based modelling platform establishes the Business Model as a core strategic asset, enabling business transformation initiatives by reducing risk, driving down costs and accelerating time-to-value.In my previous experience with global technology vendors I participated in many complex technology adoption projects across the globe. Over time it became increasingly apparent to me that as an industry we are particularly bad at helping business stakeholders articulate their business model in a precise, consistent and unambiguous way. Neither are we very good at making business knowledge reusable and incremental. Each new initiative makes little use of existing analysis and the mountain of paper generated on a typical project is almost immediately out-of-date. For most organisations the only accurate description of how their business works is embedded in their corporate information systems. Little wonder that they are so difficult to adapt or change.My frustration lead me on an academic pursuit of a solution and eventually:“The CAPSICUM Framework – A semantic meta-model for strategically aligned business architecture”. Head Of Business Analysis And Quality Assurance
Reporting to the CIO, I lead the early establishment of the Business Analysis and Quality Assurance team and the adoption of business architecture as a practice.Our team lead the design of a business architecture model for prudential supervision of regulated financial institutions, along with the supporting document management and record-keeping requirements.The resulting models provided a complete business requirement and functional specification for the SRP/IMI platform. Our work provided a significant saving to the program budget by moving straight into a build phase, eliminating the risk and cost of external consulting during the early phases of a typical software development lifecycle.
