Terry Sanks, a registered patent attorney, provides representation in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, related litigation, and related business matters. He is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for a variety of inventions primarily dealing with electrical, electromechanical and mechanical technologies, software-based, business methods and e-commerce. Mr. Sanks also counsels clients on the patentability of inventions and provides patent infringement and validity opinions. With respect to trademarks, he counsels clients on the selection, availability for use, and the preparation and prosecution of trademarks with state agencies and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including opposition and cancellation practice before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Mr. Sanks addresses client matters related to copyrights as well as prepares registration of copyrights filed with the United States Copyright Office. Mr. Sanks also litigates, representing clients in contested matters involving patent infringement, trademark infringement, unfair competition, copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, and related matters. Additionally, he counsels clients about business matters, such as licensing, involving intellectual property. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Sanks was an officer in the United States Air Force. Mr. Sanks performed several noteworthy accomplishments while in the Air Force including being the first program manager of the Electric Propulsion Space Experiment (ESEX) program, an endeavor that when tested in space in 1999 ESEX was, at that time, the highest powered subsystem ever flown in space by mankind. Mr. Sanks was directly responsible for conceiving the initial mission profile, contractor selection, advocating for funding, and initiating the development of ESEX.
