About Terry R. Summers

I started in the financial services sector in 1987. I was marketing life insurance and annuities for a Minneapolis based financial planning firm, Swenson-Anderson and Associates and was located in Minot, N.D. (my hometown). In 1991 I moved to Denver and got my series 6, 63 and 22 securities license and represented a variety of insurance and investment companies.In 2002, I set out to be completely independent for purposes of best representing the people that I work for, my clients. I formed a corporation, Wealth Accumulation Services which was later renamed Summers Retirement Strategies. I am currently part of the team at Retirement Solutions Group in Overland Park, KS. I use a process called the Retirement Analyzer to model your retirement plan. It is intuitive and detailed. This software brings my clients to logical conclusions regarding the retirement years with a recognition that we are talking about, potentially, 30 to 40 years.

    I formed my corporation for the explicit purpose of growing my clients money, while protecting it from (sometimes calamitous) market losses. I use contracts that guarantee the principal amount and lock in gains as principal.. My target market is those that have accumulated money, intended for retirement. My clients know that when I use the word guarantee, it is the contractual obligation (of the company that has the fiduciary responsibility) of protecting the asset. I witnessed the effect of "BLACK MONDAY" (10/19/1987) as a prospective client lost 22.5% of a $500,000 portfolio. YES, he sold! EXPLANATION- PROGRAM TRADING I witnessed the run-up of the markets through the 90's and the give back early in the 2000's. EXPLANATION- DOT COM BUBBLEI witnessed the run-up of the markets from late 2002-2008, followed by the give back in 2008-09. EXPLANATION- SUB-PRIME MORTGAGE CRISISI find it interesting that there are always explanations of these crises, but few (if any) predictors. Hence my mantra..."Participate in the upside of the market without participating in the downside".Given my target market and aforementioned demographic, it is necessary for me to market Long Term Care Insurance and Life Insurance to help my clients protect that which they have accumulated.
