About Tessa Xuan
Tessa Xuan is a Connector, Community Organizer, Facilitator, and Strategy Consultant at OPAWL - Building AAPI Feminist Leadership. She possess expertise in public speaking, data analysis, community outreach, leadership, social media and 29 more skills. She is proficient in Mandarin. Colleagues describe her as "I have known and worked very closely with Tessa Xuan for the last two years since joining, as a board member, the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Chamber of Commerce (G4C) under Tessa’s leadership as the Executive Director. Tessa assumed the role of Executive Director in January 2016 during a time of significant change and transition and was challenged with inheriting an organization that had declining membership, relatively few program/service offerings, and a lack of a unifying strategic direction. It has been amazing to see the positive impact that a single individual (Tessa) has had on the Chamber over the last two years through her leadership, strategic thinking and ability to connect throughout the greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area with diverse communities, organizations and individuals. Under Tessa’s tenure, the execution and program management for chamber events/program offerings (such as the annual Chinese New Year Gala) improved both qualitatively and quantitatively. Tessa has a great blend of IQ/EQ and is truly gifted in her abilities to win people over and to quickly build trusting relationships by demonstrating her own brand of “servant leadership” which is based on listening for understanding and power through collaboration. In her own way, Tessa is a magnet for attracting volunteers through her demonstration of and strong desire to help others by formulating a strategic pathway through a compelling vision for the future. The unifying vision of “building bridges” was crafted by Tessa and serves as a compass for service offerings of the G4C. Quite simply, people want to work with Tessa and to support whatever it is that she is involved with because they trust her implicitly, and they also like her! Tessa is wise beyond her years and is truly unique in terms of her ability to be a force multiplier. Virtually every fellow board member has commented to me on numerous occasions about the impact that Tessa has had during her relatively short tenure as executive director, she is without question an impact player!", "Over the past few years, I've gotten to know Tessa very well through our experience at the Cincinnati chapter of NAAAP (National Association of Asian American Professionals). Tessa is an incredible talent who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, persistent, envisioning, and a pleasure to work with. More than anyone, Tessa is responsible for our organization's significant growth over the past 3-4 years (+300%) - she saw the opportunity that the organization had in our community, championed a vision, and then went out and executed flawlessly. She never backs down from a challenge and her can-do attitude is contagious. Tessa would be an incredible asset for any organization. I couldn't recommend her more strongly.", and "Tessa Xuan is a motivator. She does it in a subtle way and it brings out the best in people. She seems to always have a probing question or suggestion that motivates positive movement in an initiative or project. The next thing you know, individuals and organizations that are challenged and/or stagnant are moving forward full-speed ahead. It is a shame that the Cincinnati area is losing such a capable leader. She will be missed. I am sure, though, that Tessa will be a great benefit to her next home."
