I am a university research assistant, currently working on eye tracking, VR/AR and machine learning to help visually impaired people see the world better. Previously I worked on brain-computer interfaces, deep learning and computational modelling for synthetic biology. I enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team and aim to help disabled people with technology.

Teaching Assistant - Systems BiologyDtu Bioengineering Sep 2016 - Nov 2016Copenhagen Area, Capital Region, DenmarkI helped the MSc. and BSc. students with exercises, in both theory and programming. Students can get frustrated when the learning gets tough, they need patience to persevere. When I interacted with them, I assured them that it is normal to be struggling, and it is important to keep trying. I learnt to actively listen, I used plots and real-life examples to make abstract concepts more understandable. -
Construction LaborerAllied Work Force Nov 2014 - Jan 2015Auckland, New ZealandOn the cliff face of engineering - a job to get my hands dirty. I worked on a variety of jobs, including warehouse construction, building demolition, drain laying, TV cable laying, manhole making, road paving, window and door installation, furniture transport, gardening etc. I learnt to operate roller compactor, plate compactor, concrete mixer, and the correct techniques for hand tools like drills, crowbar and hammers. I learnt to identify and remove hazards.I learnt that there is trade secrets in every occupation, I got to experience the hardworking culture that builds the modern world. I acquired a familiarity and respect for blue collar workers, by interacting with them, I got to see their philosophy on improving the quality of life for their families by working hard and smart. Everyone I met told me I was lucky to be in university, and it really refreshed my perspective - I am very lucky to be where I am.

Research Intern - 3D Reconstruction Of Shoulder Complex MotionsAuckland Bioengineering Institute Nov 2013 - Feb 2014Auckland, New ZealandI assisted a PhD student in his thesis about human shoulder-complex movements. I made two visualisation models of the shoulder complex using data tracked by X-ray videography and infrared motion tracker. I compared the models and their accuracies, preliminarily validating a new medical technology to save patients from harmful X-rays.

Research Intern - Rapid Modeling Of Soft Tissue DeformationAuckland Bioengineering Institute Nov 2012 - Feb 2013Auckland, New ZealandI assisted a research group on breast cancer imaging. I used machine learning to predict how human breasts deform under gravity. I used patients’ MRI scans from standing and lying positions to train a PLSR model to predict the deformation of breast on surgical beds, with the aim to save time by reducing the number of scans required before surgery. My supervisor presented my work at the 2013 MICCAI International Workshop on Breast Image Analysis in Japan.
