Teun Bousema (1977) is a Professor in epidemiology of tropical infectious diseases at Radboud university medical center (Radboudumc, the Netherlands) and honorary Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM, UK) aHis research interests are malaria (immuno-) epidemiology, the transmission of drug resistant parasite strains and malaria transmission reducing interventions. He was previously a research fellow at LSHTM and at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi, Tanzania where he was deputy director of the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute. He completed his PhD with honours at the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2007 after fieldwork at ICIPE and KEMRI in western Kenya. Before that he obtained a master degree in Biomedical Sciences (Epidemiology and Toxicology) at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands.In 2007 Teun won the Young Investigator award of the Nijmegen Centre for Infectious diseases (NUCI). In 2012 he won the Merial Award, awarded annually to outstanding parasitologists from the Benelux. In 2013, he was selected for the prestigious Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2017 he was awarded the Eijkman Medal for achievements in tropical medicine and in 2019 the AMMODO Science Award for basic research.
