Led the NMR group for Analytical & Quality Sciences in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Development, Wyeth Research, supervising 3 people. Performed and interpreted one-dimensional and two-dimensional (2D) NMR experiments to identify process impurities and degradation products.• Played a key role in developing and validating an NMR method that was used for a label expansion filing submitted to the FDA and European health agencies• Prepared several reports containing NMR, MS, HPLC and IR results that were part of submissions for INDs, NDAs, and label expansion claims.• Worked with the IR, MS, and reference standards groups to develop a new template for proof of structure reports.
Performed and interpreted one-dimensional and two-dimensional (2D) NMR experiments to determine stereochemistry, regiochemistry, and identity of unknowns, including the use of mass spectral data, for Abbott chemists, primarily supporting Pharmaceutical Discovery and Development. Maintained several NMR instruments and sample preparation robots. Managed, trained and supervised technicians. • Developed and implemented a capillary flow NMR system in conjunction with an engineer and programmer, within a limited budget, to run samples from well plates. • Improved the reliability and efficiency of automated sample preparation robots by editing Zymark programs.• Determined the location of tritium on radiolabelled compounds for radiochemists and metabolism by employing tritium NMR.• Modified TCL scripts for Varian VAST to run metabonomics samples in a flow probe.• Provided key information that allowed a farnesyltransferase inhibitor to proceed to Drug Development Candidate status by determining that extra peaks seen in the HPLC were artifacts due to a cyclization of the compound under acidic conditions.• Provided written results to chemists including more than a dozen formal internal reports of NMR results per year resulting in over 10 publications.• Elucidated the structures of over 50 erythromycin derivatives resulting in 6 publications.
