I am responsible for the management and operation of the digital channels of The Detroit News, including our Saxotech Online content management system and templates, as well as our iOS/Android apps and mobile site. I also work with and help manage our video channels.My job also entails finding new distribution channels and methods, and finding new ways of integrating content into and out of our site.Additionally, I manage our user experience developer's activities. Together we work to tweak and perfect the look, feel and usefulness of Detroitnews.com and its related sites. This includes management and authoring of the Saxotech Online templates, and integration with in-house secondary systems as well as external vendor sites.Other work functions:-- Working on and managing our search engine optimization efforts.-- Working with both IT personnel and GMTI hosting personnel to ensure smooth communication between our in-house front-end system and the web content management platform.-- Working with advertising managers in the Detroit Media Partnership to ensure maximum exposure for Detroit News advertising partners.-- Helping newsroom personnel understand how their work can and should translate to the website, including story presentation and alternative storytelling methods.And, whenever I can, I try to get into the field to work with our technology -- producing video, working with live video, assisting in reporting, assisting in the production of online extras, shooting photos, producing galleries, etc. -- so that I can see where we're doing well, where we need to do better, and where we need to innovate so that we can remain a vital and important source of news in the community.

I was responsible for oversight and maintenance of the website's content management system templates and design, working extensively with the Saxotech Online system. I also work on special packages and presentations for news, and with alternative media: e-mail delivery, video, live-streaming, etc.I began my career with detnews.com as a night news producer, moving the printed newspaper to the web nightly. I still participate in production one night a week to keep hands on the process.

Over the course of three years, I covered a variety of beats: Lapeer County and its communities, schools, courts and crimes; Clio, Montrose and Northern Genesee County; and the Sunday general assignment beat for the newspaper's entire coverage area.

During my tenure, I covered a diverse range of communities and topics in nearly every city and village in the county. I also spent time beat reporting in Lapeer, Imlay City, Dryden, Almont, and a number of townships. I covered police, courts, and a number of 'big' stories, including two local men's connections to the Oklahoma City bombing.

Responsible for supervising production and content of editorial portions of four paid circulation newspapers: Reed City Herald-News, Lake County Star, Evart Review, and Lakeview Enterprise; and three news-shoppers: Pioneer East, Freeway, and River Valley News-Shopper.

City editor, responsible for overseeing and planning coverage by four-person staff. Also covered Central Michigan University Board of Trustees, political beat, local school board, courts, and continued to write general news and features. Previously worked as a reporter for the Morning Sun, covering police, courts and several municipal and school beats.
