  -Coordinate and Manage Health Research within Department of Health and outside including stakeholders such Medical Research Council (MRC) and other research councils in South Africa.-Head of Secretariat of National Health Research Ethics Council (NHREC) and National Health Research Committee (NHRC).-Draft reports for the NHREC and NHRC.-Provide secretariat and technical support to the Health Data Advisory and Coordination Committee.-Provide technical support as member of Steering Committee for South African National TB Prevalence Survey 2010 – 2012.-Coordinate the review the existing South African Health Research Policy and guidelines.-Provide technical support to the reference group on appointment of a service provider to develop screening tool/tools and framework for psychological and mental health problems among learners 2010 – 2011.-Provide technical support to the reference group on appointment of a service provider to implement and monitor screening and brief interventions for alcohol use disorders among TB patients 2010 - 2011.-Facilitate finalization of regulations and policies related to health research-Develop electronic health research database.-Develop electronic system for registration and auditing of research ethics committees.-Preparation of directorate strategic and operational plans.-Coordination of health Research Directorate monitoring and evaluation activities.-Review Health Research protocols.-Manage the Directorates’ annual budget in accordance with Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).-Organize and facilitate training workshops in health research and ethics.
