I am a Fraud Specialist professional with 8 years’ experience in the field. My interest in the finance industry lead me to study for a Degree in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Johannesburg. I am currently an employee of Absa since 2017. I joined part of a newly created High Risk Fraud Team also known as the Operational Risk Team at Absa Investment Management Service, a linked investment and administration financial service provider. Being a part of this team has been an immersive learning exercise that highlighted the importance of collaborative effort and everything it entails. The team, since its inception, has increased its rate of efficiency by more than 600% by year 2019. We were able to detect and prevent fraud to the amount of more than R3 million in under 2 year – this has been a personal career highlight. Prior to my move to Absa, I was under the employ of STANLIB and served in multiple roles within the investment division, specifically in the risk management division. I was responsible for developing, aligning and implementing the following:- Fraud Risk Management policy and framework- Fraud Risk Management processes (detecting, preventing and responding to fraud events)- Fraud Investigations - Training and Fraud Awareness in the Operational environment (internally and to customers)- Risk reporting, assessment and validation.I am now in search for a new experience, where I can learn additional skills and where my current skills set will be best utilised.
