CurrentAs a Sustainability Lead and Senior Consultant at Cundall, I have developed and honed a comprehensive skill set in project management and sustainability services, leading diverse projects through all RIBA stages. My work has spanned a wide range of sectors, including new builds and refurbishments of offices, NHS surgeries, cultural centres, and mixed-use developments. My primary responsibilities include ensuring regulatory compliance, modelling operational energy, and managing certification schemes, all while maintaining close collaboration with clients and design teams.
Research Affiliate Assistant
As a Research Affiliate Assistant, I am currently consolidating the outcomes of my doctoral thesis and further developing research in the fields of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and energy data-driven models. My role involves a combination of data analysis, research synthesis, and model development to advance the understanding and applications of IAQ and energy efficiency. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in IAQ and energy efficiency, building on the foundation of my completed doctoral thesis and pushing the boundaries of what data-driven models can achieve in these critical areas.
Building Performance Modeller | Building Physics Engineer
In partnership with Sheffcare, I am embarking on an ongoing collaborative project called "Care Homes Fit for the Future" (CHeFF). The primary objective of this interdisciplinary project is to explore how the architectural design of care homes can effectively address the challenges posed by climate change, energy transition, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, with a specific focus on reducing the energy consumption and enhancing indoor environmental quality (IEQ) of care homes. • Gather indoor environment and user data from participating care homes. This data will serve as the foundation for validating predictive IEQ models and evaluating the effectiveness of various design strategies.• Develop coupled EnergyPlus and CONTAM baseline models for nine care homes in Sheffield, focusing on crucial design parameters such as space heating-cooling, air quality, dynamic infiltration rates, and internal loads. These models will serve as a reference point for assessing energy performance and identifying areas for improvement.• The performance of the care homes are tested for a change in energy use and risk of summertime overheating while maintaining a good indoor air quality in future climates for the short (2030s), medium (2050s) and long term (2080s) using future weather files developed by the PROMETHEUS project.• Implementation of advanced technologies and interventions such as: improving the building envelope air permeability (Q50, m3/h/m2), building fabric improvement (U-Values, W/m²·°C), Demand controlled ventilation (DCV), HVAC Technologies (VRF and ERV Systems), and combined Wind and PV for NZE buildings.
M.Sc Thesis And Research Co-Supervisor
• Overseeing and assisting master’s students in their thesis project of the Sustainable Architecture Studies (SAS) programme.• Leading tutorials on indoor air quality modelling and building energy simulation using CONTAM and EnergyPlus.• Educating and guiding students to enhance their knowledge and experience in the sustainable design of buildings.• Introducing the fundamentals of building ventilation design for Indoor air quality and energy consumption.• Evidence-based design decision, modelling, and scenario analysis to achieve the net-zero energy target by 2050. • Working with local and international policies and building regulations.
Research & Technical Support - Energy And Indoor Air Quality Modeller
• Performed Knowledge Exchange (KE) Project to improve outcomes of research.• Utilised coupled Energy-Indoor Air Quality simulation tools (EnergyPlus and CONTAM) to design and develop the environmental performance (IAQ and Thermal Comfort) of existing care homes in the United Kingdom.• Fit for the Future Modelling: Application of various building interventions (Envelope Air Permeability Q50, HVAC System Design and Ventilation Strategies, Insulation Levels and Internal Load Management), as part of UK’s Net Zero Energy Target using future weather files.
Departmental Lead - 'Fair' Principles For Research Data & Software | Checklist Project
• Established advanced strategies to implement domain-specific FAIR principles in research data and software to optimise data reuse.• Collaboration with researchers and scholars to develop domain-specific FAIR Checklists. • Publication: https://doi.org/10.15131/shef.data.20496855.v2
Project Architect And Bim Coordinator
Performed all duties, acting as Building Information Modelling (BIM) Coordinator for various large-scale projects. Managed all activities related to building design for district cooling plants of Dubai DXB Airport. Spearheaded several building codes, including fire and safety codes of Qatar, KSA, and UAE, international building code (IBC), and international green building certifications, such as LEED and Estidama.• Assigned as a BIM coordinator and Project Architect (PA) to participate in the design process of serviced apartments for Al Mourjan City, in Qatar (2017 – 2018). Performed Navisworks Clash Detection and Coordination as part of the project requirement. • Worked with a team to perform two gold-certified LEED projects (District Cooling Plants DCP) as part of the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) to provide high-quality and environmentally friendly cooling services through highly efficient cooling plants.in UAE, 2017. Technologies involved: Thermal Energy Storage Tanks (TES) and an award winning Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE Technology). • Developed effective designs of serviced apartment modules for Al Yasmeen City, Qatar through collaborative work with different disciplines including mechanical, electrical and structural design and services 2016 – 2017. • Involved in a Value Engineering (VE) Project of theWorld Cup Lusail Stadium in Qatar designed by AECOM and Ramboll 2016• Worked on upgrading and improving Zone-17 Expansion of the Holy Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia (2014-2016).
