Current• Prepare and teach lessons and activities aligned with WIDA and Common Core State Standards, scaffolded for varying English language proficiency levels.• Help students get acclimated to their new school community by teaching them about school/cultural norms and setting them up with resources as needed (i.e. counseling, extracurricular activities, tutoring, etc.)• Measure the attainment of content and language objectives through formative and summative assessments. Use data to inform practice.• Test and score newcomers’ English proficiency using the WIDA Screener assessment as well as proctor the WIDA ACCESS test, the MCAS and the PSAT.• Co-teach assigned content-area classes using a Sheltered English Immersion approach.• Collaborate with and advise content-area teachers to differentiate content for English Learners.• Monitor Former English learners for a period of 4 years by assessing teacher survey responses and maintaining regular communication with teachers. • Assist front office staff and guidance counselors with enrollment of newcomer students (i.e. make phone calls, arrange testing, assist with creation of schedules, etc.)• Create and maintain cumulative office files for each individual English Learner, in accordance with state laws.• Maintain English Learner database on ELLevation software (i.e. update testing information and results, program entrance and exit dates, upload important documents such as Parent Notification Letter, Screener results, etc.).• Regularly communicate with parents and guardians about expectations, student performance, and important school events using appropriate channels of communication.• Show rigorous evidence as part of the teacher evaluation process.
