Currently, Tom serves as Senior Director of Administration, Advancement, and Finance at Sheriff's Meadow Foundation; a land trust that is responsible for conserving over 3,200 acres of land across the Island of Martha's Vineyard. Tom is also an assistant adjunct professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston and as adjunct faculty at Maryville University in St. Louis. Previous to this, Tom served as Executive Director of Hospice and Palliative Care of Martha's Vineyard. He was a tenured professor at Salem State University, teaching courses in communication sciences and disorders (CSD), inclusive education policy, and social justice. Tom has also taught at Boston University where he directed their Aural Rehabilitation Program in the CSD Department. He was a long-term policy consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Division of Medical Assistance overseeing two state-wide hearing healthcare programs. Tom has a substantial international career with experiences working in Cambodia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. Much of his work within each of these settings has focused on university administration and teaching, healthcare initiatives, education policy, program development, and the educational and civil rights of individuals with disabilities. Tom has served in many senior leadership roles in academia and the non-profit sector in the U.S. Tom has an established and extensive history of leadership within professional associations, government agencies, and the non-profit sector. Notably, he sat on the Board of Directors for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), serving as VP for Government Relations & Public Policy. Tom was a Dukes County Commissioner on Martha's Vineyard. He is a recipient of a number of state and national awards, including a CASE (Council of Alumni for Social Enterprise) Fellowship to Cape Town, South Africa in 2005, a Fulbright Scholar Award to the University of Jordan in 2012, and an ASHA Fellow in 2013.
