Thanh Vu has 8 years of CVML research experience and 3 years working with Google X, Amazon, and Lenovo. He is passionate about developing innovative technologies to solve complex and impactful problems, from research to production.Currently, Thanh is a Perception ML Engineer at Mineral, an Alphabet company focused on AI solutions for sustainable agriculture. He joined Mineral Research and Google X in 2021 as an AI Resident while simultaneously pursuing his PhD in Computer Vision at UNC Chapel Hill under Dr. Jan-Michael Frahm.Between 2021 and 2023, Thanh led four AI projects with Mineral and Google Brain, developing robust and efficient deep learning methods for large-scale edge applications. His work, recognized by Mineral's CTO, resulted in two pending patents. Relevant areas include:- CV: Object Detection, Generative AI, Semantic Segmentation, Depth Estimation, Image Classification- ML: Unsupervised Domain Adaptation, Knowledge Distillation, Multi-Task Learning, NAS, Efficient DL- Applications: Precision Agriculture, Autonomous Driving, AR/VR, Mobile DevicesPreviously, Thanh received his B.S. in Computer Science and Minor in Mathematics at Lafayette College, where he conducted research on visual attribute learning, object recognition and image retrieval, and feature detection under the supervision of Dr. Amir Sadovnik and Dr. Chun Wai Liew.
