About Thanos Giannakakis

I joined WWF Greece in 2008, working for many years on the "Conservation of the island wetlands of Greece". Later I coordinated a partnership of 13 NGOs and Institutes from 9 Mediterranean countries, aiming at the "Conservation of the Mediterranean Island wetlands" (MedIsWet), while since 2020, I am the head of the Nature-based Solution (NbS) program in WWF Greece. Aside from my professional life, I am also co-founder of “The Black Sheep” NGO, whose mission is to highlight the possibilities for sustainable recreation that Greece's mountainous environment has to offer and whose main activity is the organization of the "Pierracreta" ski mountaineering race on the Cretan Mountains.
