About Thanos (Athanasios) Baltopoulos

I am a Mechanical Engineer (Dipl.-Ing., 2007) specializing in composite materials for applications in aerospace and transport. From November 2007 to July 2013, i was a PhD candidate at the Applied Mechanics Laboratory/UoPatras (GR). Between January 2010 till June 2011, I relocated to the Netherlands and worked as an engineer in the Materials Technology Section of the European Space Agency Technology Center (ESA/ESTEC) under the framework of the ESA Greek Trainee Program. In July 2011 i returned to Greece to continue my research towards doctorship which was successfully defended in July 2013. I have been working in the field of polymer composites since 8 years now, having dealt with various issues related to Materials & Processes and Structures: design, analysis, processing, nano-modification, manufacturing, testing & characterization and non-destructive methods.My PhD dissertation is entitled:Multifunctional composite structures with damage sensing capabilitiesMy motivational quote (originating from IDEO):"Don't think what to build...build in order to think!"Always open and interested in novel ideas and challenging projects. 3D printing practitioner for business and fun.Specialties: Composites - Materials & Process- Processing of polymers and manufacturing of fiber reinforced polymer composite- Testing & Characterization of composites- Nano-reinforced polymers and composites- Electrical sensing strategies for damage assessment of composite structures- R&D in material and structural systems- Research projects: concept development, proposal preparation, presentation, impact and project management
