Kahatagaha Mines are located in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka at Maduragoda, Dodangaslanda in the Kurunegala District, approximately 90 km. from the capital city of Colombo and managed by Kahatagaha Graphite Lanka Limited (KGLL). It is a fully government-owned public limited liability Company.Kahatagaha Mine is a combination of two mines, which were operated since 1872 as Kahatagaha and Kolongaha Mines and after undertaking by the government in 1973, the two mines are amalgamated and work as a single mine.Kahatagaha-Kolongaha is the world's biggest crystalline graphite mine which contains 90% to above 99% pure carbon in fully crystallized form. It is found as needles, lumps, rossets, and flakes, enjoying monopoly of high carbon crystalline vein graphite, with low ash content, having a proven reputation of world market acceptance as a unique product. The Mine is 2000 feet (610 meters) deep and it is the deepest Graphite mine in Sri Lanka as well as Asia. Accessibility to the mine is by 2 shafts. The shaft at Kahatagaha reaches to1132 feet (345 meters) level and Kolongaha goes up to 330 feet (101 meters) level. The mine extends as far as 500 meters, at its widest point. The company has currently several Large scales quarries and crusher plants all around Sri Lanka. Among those large-scale IML-A grade quarry and Crusher plant is situated in Divlapitiya, Gamapaha District.

The North Central Canal Project(NCCP) comprises two components. The first component is the constructionof the Kalu Ganga-Moragahakanda Transfer Canal (including two tunnels) that will transfer water betweenthe Kalu Ganga and Moragahakanda reservoirs. The second component is the construction of the Upper Elahera Canal (UECP) that connects the Moragahakanda reservoir to the existing reservoirs Huruluwewa, Manankattiya, Eruwewa, and Mahakanadarawa (including in total 28 km of tunnels). These reservoirs feed existing irrigation and water supply schemes. CML-MTD construction ltd is the main Contractor of 1st phase of this project (UECP-ICB1). my major responsibilities were working on rock excavation at the Large canal.

CML-MTD construction was commissioned to construct part of the central expressway by the road development authority, the project includes four lanes with a center median, all earthworks and road works, viaducts, pass carriages, bridges, piling and hard rock excavation, and in order to cater to the project we installed a crusher and concrete ready mix plants. CML-MTD construction has been awarded the contract for constructing starts at Pothuhara and ending at Kurunagala covering an approximate length of approximately 4km long Expressway in Sri Lanka (CEP-Section 02, package D), It had to overcome certain difficulties along the way including rock blasting work being close to residential areas, so my major responsibilities were working on rock excavation at the proposed expressway.

Water supply project in Monaragala and Buttala area covering 90km of pipelining and water treatment plants, intakes, and ground reservations plants Conducted by NWSDB with BESIX Belgium based consulting company. CML-MTD Construction Ltd is the main contractor of this project. My major responsibilities were working on rock excavation works (Blasting activities) encountered during the construction of water intakes, underground water tanks, dams, and pipe-laying activities related to the projects

Learning the key processes affiliated with open cast quarry industry * Applying control systems and other safety precautions for the blasting activities Where necessary. *Performed industrial rock blasting activities and supervised machines /manpower utilization * learning how to manage manpower and machine utilization at the site *Involving in assembling/disassembling types of machinery of the crusher plants *learning how to Manage the total cost of crushed aggregates less than that of the company allowed *learning how to review and enhance the performance of the site on a monthly basis.
