Thato N. is a company I founded based on the experiences gained from the endless struggles I encountered after being hit, flung and dragged by a reckless and negligent taxi that lost control. This monstrous minibus entangled my fifteen year old body in its light-blue steel jaws while I was standing on the pavement, eleven years ago, on Friday the 21st of October 2005. As a result of that dreadful incident, I sustained multiple injuries which left me torn, battered, broken and bruised. With all the odds stacking up against me, I further had to endure more pain due to emergency medical services taking two hours to remove me from underneath the taxi. They doubted the validity of my Discovery Medical Aid Card which my mother had presented to them shortly after their arrival. Upon my arrival at Sunninghill hospital, doctors were contemplating just declaring me dead on arrival due to their fear of not being able to reverse the life threatening effects from the severe injuries I had sustained and the large amount of blood I had lost. After much deliberation, the medical team would then decide to give me a chance at survival and prepped me for what would turn out to be five long hours in theatre. That would mark the beginning of my four month stay at Sunninghill Hospital and one of my many medical procedures I would have to go through. My biggest quest is to enlighten people of their inherent ability, which is deeply embedded in each one of them, to overcome any challenges life may throw their way. This organisation aims to awaken people’s awareness and to sensitise them to the daily struggles people have to endure. If I can touch one person’s life through sharing my story, I would have done my job. Thato N. would also like to remind people to fully immerse themselves in life’s fun, fulfilling and joyous moments as the next moment isn’t guaranteed.
