Joined the newly formed executive team with the charge of transforming NRCCUA into a technology company, accelerating its growth, and achieving a profitable exit. Working with the CPO, developed the organizational structure and agile processes necessary to help us achieve our aggressive Product Development goals. We grew the team, launched multiple software products, and tripled revenue while maintaining a substantial profit margin. Company was acquired by ACT in mid 2018, and continued to operate independently until late 2020.As the executive responsible for leading all aspects of NRCCUA's product engineering, my responsibilities included the development and rollout of a strategic technology roadmap, engineering methodology, and the high-level system architecture. Inherited a team of 10 technologists and grew it to 70+. Very involved in recruiting and retention efforts. We grew to 5 product development teams, supported by teams for Architecture, DevOps, QA, Information Security, and IT. Developed a relationship with a South American provider of software development resources, resulting in our ability to staff up a new team rather quickly and affordably. Worked on the company's M&A activities, evaluating the technology and teams of numerous organizations.Migrated the company to the cloud, agile methodologies, micro services, and cloud native development.Tech stack included AWS, Python, Node, React, Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin, SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB, GraphQL.

Primarily focused on the development of native iOS applications, RESTful web services, IoT and robotics. Consult with numerous clients in a number of industries including green energy, weather, finance, manufacturing, sales, insurance, professional services and health care. Clients range in size from startups to the Fortune 500.Perform a wide range of duties for clients, including software engineering, development of technical architecture, object and data modeling, web site development, graphic design, database administration, mentoring of staff, technical training, project management, project effort estimation, and network implementation and administration.

Venture funded startup in the mobile payments space with a staff of 30+Technology and tools: iOS, Android, AWS, OSX, Linux, Objective-C, Swift, Java, Python, node.js, Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Redis, RabbitMQ, 3Scale API Management, GIT, Subversion, JiraManaged all mobile engineering. Built the iOS team from the ground up. Recruited, managed, and mentored iOS engineers. Managed outsourced engineering of the Android product line. As the organization’s resident Apple expert, I architected the iOS app products, made significant hands-on contributions to the coding of the apps, filled the role of Apple team agent, and directly managed the iOS engineering team. Worked with Product Management and User Experience to develop app concepts and design UIs. Worked with server-side engineers to design the RESTful web service APIs used by mobile apps.Initiated, architected, and led a team of 4 in the development of a new SDK/API product line that was named Flint Connect. This included an iOS SDK and a RESTful Web Services API. Led the team in tool selection, design and implementation. Architected and developed web services in Python. All servers were deployed on AWS.Managed DevOps. Recruited and managed the company’s first DevOps engineer. Worked with him to take the organization’s AWS architecture to the next level. Initiated and managed a company-wide rollout of Scrum in order to tame the chaotic engineering environment that existed when I first joined the company. Performed as Scrum master. Mentored the staff. This resulted in markedly improved morale, more effective release planning, more accurate effort estimates, and higher quality code (i.e., fewer bugs).

Safe2Start was a special purpose browser designed to allow children safe access to specific web sites, and parent’s control over what the child could access, how much time they spent on the sites, and insight into what they did while logged into the sites. Safe2Start was a tool for parents to help them safely introduce their children to popular web sites, manage usage, and educate them on how to interact appropriately on the Internet. Safe2Start was selected to be on Startup Row at PyCon 2013 in Santa Clara.As CTO of this small startup, I designed and developed all of the software: the native iPad app, the macOS app, and the RESTful services. The server-side systems were 100% cloud-based. Technology included Objective-C, Python, MongoDB, and AWS.

As the CTO, I managed the company’s numerous software product engineering, product management, and UX/UI teams. The product engineering I was responsible for encompassed B2C and B2B web sites, commercial mobile apps, B2B SaaS web APIs, and broadcast systems.

Taught undergraduate courses on software development. Subjects included Java, HTML and CSS. Tasks included preparation of course materials, lecturing, supervision of lab work, and evaluation of student work.

Member of the Enterprise Architecture team. Manager of Middleware Architecture and Emerging Technology. Performed a wide range of duties, including development of technical architecture, object modeling, software development, mentoring of staff, classroom training, and technology selection.

In this customer facing role, performed as the firm’s leader in emerging technology. Consulted with clients regarding software development, architecture, and technology selection and migration. Managed the health care and e-learning consulting practices. Developed marketing materials, including videos, white papers and audio CDs.

Founded and managed IT consulting firm focused on developing distributed systems with emerging technology. Grew the company to 29 employees, including billable staff, recruiting, and sales. Received the Milwaukee Metropolitan Associations of Commerce “Future 50” award for three consecutive years. Managed delivery of services, overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.Performed billable work for clients managing projects, architecting systems, and assisting the clients in selecting and implementing emerging technology.
