I started working with PDS when I was 17 years old, straight from school, as a Deck Hand and Labourer. I was employed casually in this position and continued working with PDS for the duration of my university education. I later underwent commercial diver training at Professional Divers Training Academy and started commercial diving with them. As a commercial diver my duties included: Underwater archaeological survey, photography, videography, excavation, recording, and corrosion thickness testing. Heritage impact assessments. OH&S register maintenance and implementation of safety management plans. Underwater construction, repair, and maintenance. With experience in steel, wood, and concrete. Using a broad range of hydraulic, pneumatic tools as well as a broad range of pumps, compressors, and power packs. Maritime structural integrity and ship survey. Underwater photography and videography. Extensive deck hand experience, and small vessel operations. Confined space operations. Remote area and ‘away’ work. Ability to work as part of a small team in demanding environments. Working with and alongside a broad range of scientific disciplines in a maritime environment.
