Biography –Richard Siegal, choreographer, performer, founder of The BakeryRichard Siegal is the artistic director of The Bakery Paris – Berlin (2002), an organization dedicated to international artistic collaborations and the promotion of contemporary performances. Siegal is Artist-in-Residence at ZKM, Center for Art and Media. He is on the faculty of D.A.N.C.E. and American Dance Festival for which he also curates the annual Forsythe Festival. In 2007, Siegal continued work on the Stranger Trilogy. The final work of this cycle, As If Stranger, premiered in January 2008 at New York City’s Danspace Project and was awarded a NY Dance and Performance Award (“Bessie”).The season 2006 saw the premieres of The New 45 for The Athens International Dance Festival, and Stranger/Stranger Report for Theatre National de Chaillot, Paris in coproduction with Festival D’Automne and Mousonturm, Frankfurt. For this work, Siegal received The Mouson Award. His web-based project, If/Then Open Source, made in collaboration with Hillary Goidell and Florent Berenger, was awarded The SACD Prize at The Monaco Dance Forum.In 2004, Siegal was made an honorary member of the Bolshoi Ballet’s Benois de la Danse and was awarded a fellowship at the prestigious MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire.Siegal danced with William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt from 1997 through its final season in 2004. During his tenure, he was named “Outstanding Dancer” by Balletanz’s Annual Critics’ Survey (1998, 2000, 2003).Specialties: Dance, Choreography, Text, New Media
