Open Cast has delivered catering training and provided work experience since 1999. Taste is a natural extension of this programme and provides training and work experience serving real customers in a real commercial environment. TASTE serves quality food and drinks in a relaxed, modern atmosphere. Trainees gain work experience and training to enable them to secure employment in catering/service industries. They spend at least one day per week gaining practical work experience at Taste which adds to their training with Open Cast.Students complete a course of practical, vocational training and work towards nationally recognised qualifications in, for example, food preparation & cooking (NVQ Levels 1&2), food hygiene, customer service, lifting & handling, health & safety, first aid & barista training. When they go for a job interview they'll have real experience, a quality CV and qual's to put them top of the list!The concept of working with young people to develop their skills in a catering environment have been tried and tested by some very successful and high profile projects including Jamie Oliver’s 15 group of restaurants, Accountancy Firm Price Waterhouse Cooper and the Fire station Restaurant and Children’s charity Barnardos. The Barnardos project (Dr B's) is a training provider with over 25 years' experience of equipping young people with skills and knowledge to develop and improve social and employability skills.
