With more than two decades of tutoring experience under my belt, in college-based and online settings, I wanted to offer an individualized writing consultation service not available with current online writing centers or one-time consultations at Writing Centers. MyWritingProfessor.com is a web portal, with a great, friendly, and diverse cast of writing consultants, that offers a personal touch you can afford.Educated at Duke University, The New School for Social Research, and Stanford University, I have a long history of successful writing consultation, specifically in the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as areas beyond (i.e., non-profit, college admissions, grant writing, curriculum development, and manuscript editing). From my work as co-professor of Writing Pedagogy and consultant at the Eugene Lang College Writing Center, to teaching positions in Northern California, or my more recent work as Adjunct Professor in English, Humanities, and Philosophy at Houston Community College, my approach to writing is about meeting students where they are, finding realistic ways to improve the quality of writing given varied skill sets, and maximizing student potential.A shift in its original conception, MyWritingProfessor, has done as much to support professional development (resumes, cover letters) as anything else. Teach For America is in the midst of an ambitious five-year plan to grow our scale and impact in order to provide hundreds of thousands more disadvantaged students with teachers who will make a real difference in their lives. At the same time, we are maximizing the leadership of our alumni, engaging a diversified funding base, and growing our organizational capacity. While much has been accomplished, we still have a great deal more hard work ahead of us in order to achieve our organization’s mission. In my position, I play an integral role in this ever-expanding organizational effort to eliminate educational inequity. I do this through developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the LGBTQ community, by building upon the tireless work already initiated by LGBTQ core members, staff, and alumni, and by providing strategic planning and oversight to recruitment efforts aligned with the overarching organizational development.

Tim'm T. West is a poet, emcee, scholar and the author of three books "Red Dirt Revival", "BARE", and "Flirting". A graduate of Duke, The New School, and Stanford universities, he is also co-founder of the now defunct rap group DDC. Tim'm followed their success with three solo projects, "Songs from Red Dirt", "Blakkboy Blue(s)", and the 2009 release “In Security: The Golden Error”. He also created and hosted the "Front Porch" Spoken Word/Soul/Hip Hop showcase in DC, Oakland, Chicago, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Dallas, and various U.S. Colleges and Universities. Tim'm also appeared in Byron Hurt's "Beyond Beats and Rhymes", Alex Hinton's "Pick Up the Mic", and is featured in the forthcoming Mario Van Peebles documentary "Bring your "A" Game". Though Tim'm currently resides in Houston, TX he is a Visiting Lecturer in Ethnic Studies in 2008-09 at Humboldt State University in Northern California. Facilitation and coordination of various Youth Programs related to the Case Management, Mental Health, HIV Prevention and Treatment Interventions, Leadership, and Cultural & Arts programming at Center on Halsted. I continue to oversee and provide outreach, recruitment, planning, implementation, assessment services for Mpowerment, CLEAR, and OVAH (Our Voices Advocating Health) Interventions. Mpowerment is a model community building and HIV prevention program that has been designed specifically to address the needs of young gay/bisexual men ages 16 – 24.

Teaching Introduction to Philosophy and English at HCC-NW campuses (Katy, Spring Branch, dual-credit Composition at Katy High School) as requested and where time permits. I worked with young African-American same gender loving/gay/bi/queer men looking for guidance and motivation to stay HIV negative or seek the needed support to remain HIV positive and healthy. It's simply work I was born to do and I appreciate helping save lives. It was a special privilege to be employed with a job where my identity is not perceived to be in conflict with my professionalism, knowledge base, or expertise.

In summer 2008, I accepted a position as Visiting Lecturer in Ethnic Studies at Humboldt State University. I've lectured and been a vibrant part of Cultural Studies Programming over the past few years, given my connection to the late Eric Rofes, who was an iconic educator, social justice activist, and author of several books as well as a collaborative project in progress at the time of his untimely death in 2006. I will be teaching two Intro to Ethnic Studies Courses, a Campus Dialogue on Race course, and (hopefully) the extension of a Hip Hop Studies course I taught as a one unit seminar in the Spring of 2008 over the course of a weekend. My aspiration is to utilize the experience to more deeply ground my aspirations as a scholar and return to TX having secured a faculty position on the secondary or post-secondary level. I'm also interested in Student Services and hope to advise while at Humboldt as well.

As part-time Community Building Specialist for Deeper Love Project coordinates the facilitation of support groups, and creative events related to the prevention and positive management of HIV disease for black men.
