My main role is to manage airport facilities, real property, service contracts, and maintenance operations for a two-airport aviation system including a joint-use commercial aviation airport and a general aviation airport. Ensure all airport facilities, equipment, airfield lighting, pavements, and landscaping are maintained and comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Defense (DOD), state, and local standards.However, being a small airport I help in all other areas of grants, projects, budgets, operations, security, project management, etc.

I assist in managing maintenance and operation activities at airports, sea plane facilities, highways, bridges and roads in the Central Region of Alaska's Department of Transportation, Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Division. I work as a supervisor over specialized areas of transportation maintenance that spans multiple maintenance districts within a large geographic area, and perform management support functions within a headquarters or regional office. I have to form extensive work contact networks that include district superintendents, executive-level positions from various state resource agencies, and federal counterparts. Contacts often involve interpretation of applicable regulations or collaboration on capital projects. I exercise considerable authority over the projects and guide the efforts of project engineers to ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations. My recommendations are directed to my immediate supervisor, district superintendents, the Chief of M&O or the executive levels of the organization. I make sure all the information I provide is free of errors or mistakes, because the consequences impact the safety of the traveling public and the renewal of federal grants. I am expected to display considerable initiative in resolving problems with little or no direction from superiors. Activities may include developing new maintenance techniques for use throughout the region or state, or employing different equipment to attain greater efficiency.
