Dave is a champion of true radical sustainability, winning four national awards* since 2003. He leads an intentional, disruptive, carbon-conscious life. His last long-haul flight was in 1981.Beginning in 1977, Dave studied engineering at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, and has since had an illustrious career rebelling for life: ecological & social justice.In the 1990s, as a civil servant, he headed national industry sustainability committees, and briefly led the Building Research Establishment BREEAM team which developed the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings. In 2005 Dave established himself as “the carbon coach” offering individuals, communities, business leaders and celebrities “counsel-over-a-cuppa” on climate action, often pro bono. His advice spans the professional, personal, social, psychological and spiritual aspects of people’s journeys; latterly as ‘riverman’ on river walks with a shamanic element (usually water!) He is currently being mentored by Mac Macartney, founder of Embercombe, where he has served as volunteer on “The Journey” programme, annually, since 2010.For the last decade, Dave has been an outspoken activist. He was the Beaconsfield Green Party candidate for Parliament in the 2015 General Election, and in January 2019 co-founded Extinction Rebellion Chilterns, with two arrests for civil disobedience.Dave learned to row at university, going on to compete for Great Britain in the 1982 World Championships. Through his contacts in top level sport he founded Champions for Earth, a team of Olympians and sporting legends speaking out boldly about the climate emergency.Dave hosted The Eco Show on Marlow FM-97.5 for 10 years.
