    Evaluation Systems ("ES") is a business unit within Pearson's North American Education business. With approximately 200 employees across three office locations nationwide, headquartered in Hadley, MA, ES provides teacher certification testing services to more than 20 states. I began my career at ES as a Sr. Database Administrator. My primary duties revolved around database administration and systems support for multi-million dollar, e-commerce web sites. In 2010 I was promoted to a Team Lead position, managing a staff of two database administrators to provide support for production systems, software development, system performance, technical infrastructure, data policy compliance (PII, PCI), system configuration and software release management. During this time I also worked with business users and a range of technical staff as the lead architect and developer of a business intelligence product that is now used by nearly 20 of Pearson's state clients and hundreds of colleges and institutions. I especially enjoyed learning about the teacher certification testing process during the business analysis phase of the project and understanding the ways that testing data is used. In 2013 I was promoted to Manager, Application Systems. This expanded role recognizes my increased responsibilities for software management, project management, system integration and disaster recovery, among others. I have also taken on management of a team of three software developers in a reconfigured team that includes my existing staff.

    Disability Management Services is a third-party claims processing company in the insurance industry with approximately 200 employees between its Springfield, MA headquarters and a Syracuse, NY satellite office. My role at DMS was focused on directing a staff of seven software developers and business analysts to provide systems support for insurance claims and customer service applications. The suite of in-house applications we managed were used by a variety of departments including Accounting, Claims, Policyholder Services and Actuarial. My primary responsibility was to prioritize system support requests across these departments, allocating a constrained set of IT resources to the highest value projects and tasks. I accomplished this by actively managing our request tracking system, meeting quarterly with senior business leadership (Assistant Vice Presidents, Directors and Vice Presidents) to review changing business needs. My group also carved out time for projects aimed at increasing operational efficiency, such as implementation of a new check-writing software system that both streamlined the production of claim checks and vastly improved their usefulness to the claimants. The highlight of this position for me was being selected to lead one of two cross-functional groups that studied the viability of breaking into the short-term disability claims processing market. I acted as the facilitator of our group, setting meeting agendas and running the discussions for our group during the study, which lasted several months. I also participated in all phases of our study including market analysis, assessment of our operational capabilities to take on new business, market entry strategies, staff training requirements, financial modeling and the development and delivery of our final proposal to the executive management team.
