Linda S. Wallace is a problem-solver, storyteller, and highly experienced writer and facilitator. Since 1996, her company, Linda S. Wallace Communications, has provided national cultural competency training for journalists, law enforcement officers, and corporations. The training prepares attendees to identify their individual cultural lenses and offers strategies for managing beliefs and biases.Linda has helped to lead various initiatives with public and private clients, including affording housing and mortgage foreclosure prevention programs; a Save the Pell Grant campaign; health disparities informational sessions and award-winning voting initiatives in underserved communities.In 2015, she launched a column called The Cultural Coach, first published by the Greensboro News and Record and later picked up by the Fort Wayne News Sentinel and the Houston Chronicle.In this column, Linda answered readers' questions on sensitive topics, including “Why do my Black colleagues seem angry?" and "My neighborhood is changing. I feel left behind. What should I do?"Her compassionate responses created a safe space that encouraged an honest dialogue, allowing readers to open up and discuss fears and real-life experiences.The column attracted a strong following among conservatives. She became good friends with one such reader who later accompanied her to a US Navy Exchange workshop to discuss how conservatives respond to diversity training. As a journalist, Linda served as a national correspondent for the Philadelphia Inquirer, covering the Southwest part of the US. She also served as the editor of two of the paper's big money-makers - the Home and Real Estate sections. Earlier in her career, while at the Dallas Times-Herald, she wrote the first story in the country about the growing movement in the South to replace the word Black with African American. While in Memphis, she broke the story on a NCAA policy that allowed colleges to use Pell Grant funds that they taken away from their poor athletes. (Students could not be paid, they reasoned.) Her reporting led to a discussion that changed the NCAA rules, enabling athletes to keep their Pell Grants.
