His passion is educating entrepreneurs and students alike to do good and build companies that will significantly change the world for the better. Recently completing a year at Stanford University as a Distinguished Careers Institute Fellow, he is involved in promoting ethical, environmental and social awareness and actions in relation to business, engineering, education, the environment and political arenas. As an advisor and investor at Epstein Advisors, Dave is active in the entrepreneurial world. His interests include clean tech, semiconductors, health care, and socially responsible enterprises. Epstein Advisors works with startup companies’ strategies, business plan development and fundraising. Dave teaches entrepreneurship, and finance to professionals, MBA candidates and undergraduates at the University of San Francisco and University of California, Berkeley. Previously, Dave was and a co-founder and CEO of Merlyn.AI, a fin-tech company, CEO of Sol Voltaics in Sweden, an executive at Orbital Systems and an investor in companies addressing solar energy, water use and power optimization. As a General Partner at Crosslink Capital, Dave was an active VC in Silicon Valley. He also served as a CEO, founder, board member and/or executive at 7 startups. Dave began at Data General as a computer designer, chronicled in Tracy Kidder’s Pulitzer Prize winning “Soul of a New Machine.” Recognized as one of the 125 People of Impact on the 125th anniversary of the University of Wisconsin Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, he has served on its Visiting Advisory Board. Dave and his wife Sarah have established an Ethics in Engineering initiative, raising awareness of the ethical, environmental, and social consequences of technological advancements and how engineers can responsibly affect society. He serves on the University of Wisconsin Global Health Institute Board of Visitors focusing on equitable and sustainable health in our world of changing climates. Dave is a co-author of a business book and is named on 13 patents.
