Conceived, cofounded, and chaired this trade association. Assembled key stakeholders, developed and promoted adoption of technical standards for graphical identity in messaging. Apple, Verizon Media, Google and others have adopted our standards across their offerings. We produced specifications for BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) and VMCs (Verified Mark Certificates) with support for registered trademarks in multiple national IP jurisdictions. The standards enable practical and safe use of brand logos as a message sender's identity. I coauthored various publications of the group and served as primary liason to industry stakeholders and brands as chair.

Developed a SaaS service for low-latency lookup of the Internet's IPv4 DNS PTR records. Launched on AWS Marketplace.

Over four years I held roles in product management, threat data exchange, business development, and service delivery. Oversaw a major re-write and re-launch of the mainstay DMARC SaaS product. Designed data products and negotiated sharing agreements with partners. Launched the Authindicators Working Group through DMARC.org to develop the BIMI graphical identity standard. Managed feature priorities, backlog using Agile Methodologies, Jira, Github, Trello.

Accomplishments: led a twelve-person product development team (software engineering, design, UX, devops, development, QA) to launch and to revenue generation in five weeks. Selected and managed relationships with external services providers. Co-developed the product vision with the exec team, prioritized features with Agile and oversaw development. The technology stack was Ruby on Rails, MySQL, git/github, Oracle Bronto, Paypal on AWS.

Email Data Source (now SparkPost) produces and sells competitive analytics products and conducts ad-hoc research for marketers at national brands. Responsibilities included management of product development, technology operations and support teams, vendor selection, product strategy for the consumer and analytics data products, company-wide IT, systems migrations, and the development of the company's 'big data' infrastructure (Hadoop, HBase, Pig).

RestEngine developed an email marketing automation platform for the social gaming industry. I helped assemble the founding team, helped design and build the initial product and technology platform as a consultant, and served as an advisor in the areas of fundraising, team growth, and strategy. Sold to Twitter in May of 2012.

Boxbe is an inbox-optimization service for Gmail, Yahoo, and AOL email, used by 3+ million consumers and was sold to eDataSource and SparkPost. Accomplishments: conceived business model, built founding team, raised two rounds of venture capital from Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) and top angel investors. Engineered virality into the product and grew its userbase 20x in 20 months. Designed the distributed processing systems in Java, MySQL, and Spring, conducting over 500M scans per day. Pivoted into a competitive intelligence company. Successfully fought a patent troll. Negotiated a complex purchase option for sale.

Fellow of Michigan's NSF-IGERT "STIET"​ program (Socio-Technical Infrastructure for Electronic Transactions). Researched mechanism design, AI, and information economics for multi-agent trading networks (including p2p platforms) and auctions (under advisor Mike Wellman), then the economics of communication in reputation-limited networks (w/ Marshall Van Alystyne). Co-authored peer-reviewed research published in The Journal of the ACM, SSRN, and the Berkeley Electronic Journal of Economics and Policy ("An Economic Response to Unsolicited Communication"​). I presented our work at the MIT-Spam conference and was a co-delegate to the International Telecommunications Union and National Bureau of Economics Research.

One of the three engineers that built match.com's web personals system. I worked on the matching algorithms, various features in the user interface, overall system performance and the application server platform itself. We executed 10 releases in 10 months. We developed a pre-forked, database connection pooling, file-descriptor-passing, template pre-compiling, Perl-based application server running atop Oracle on Sun Solaris. I wrote Match.com's original billing system and integrated it with CheckFree.
