HELLO, I’M DEREK 👋I'm a Front-End Web Developer with a background as a professional musician.Why Software Development? Being a musician means developing a relationship with the audience and making my taste in music fit with what my audience wants. It also means lots of experience working on teams and with other people in real world settings. My passion for web development began when I realized the potential of web development to make our lives easier. I’m a sucker for a simple, elegant, direct design. I love technology that just works, that takes the stress out of a task. As a front-end web developer I relish the opportunity to figure out what clients want, and implement those needs efficiently, effectively, with the ultimate goal of making our lives a little easier.🎨 : EXPERIENCECurrently, I’m working with the Biochemistry Dept. at Colorado State University developing a website for their Shadow Scope project. Most normal microscopes use light and lenses to produce an image. Light is focused through the lenses to increase magnification, making the subject appear larger than it would with the naked eye. But, the Shadow Scope instead does the opposite–it uses shadows. Light is focused through a tiny hole onto the subject, which casts a shadow onto the camera. I’m the sole engineer collaborating with a team of scientists and an outreach and marketing specialist in order to develop interactive content to spark new minds.
