In a way, my career path was paved in high school.My grandfather had been a broadcasting pioneer. He capped his career by putting my hometown radio station, WILE, on the air. My first job—on air or otherwise—was at that station. Sure, it sounds like nepotism, but I worked hard and learned more than I could ever articulate at that Cambridge, Ohio radio station.I was also the editor of our high school newspaper back then, and I’ve been writing for newspapers, magazines and websites ever since.Writing and broadcasting continue to play important roles in my career. • As an air talent and assistant program/production director for Saga Communications, I get the opportunity to use the skills I have accumulated in radio to entertain listeners and satisfy advertisers. • You’ll also find me writing and podcasting about movies for more than 100 different print, radio and digital outlets. The opportunities that appeal to me are in voiceover. I’ve enjoyed supplying various reads for clients looking for the right voice for audio books, educational videos, marketing tools, advertisements and event announcements. I’ve been lucky enough to work in fields that let me dabble in my passion for pop culture—music and movies. And even though I was eager to leave my hometown and find adventure in the bigger world, I do appreciate that it was my grandpa’s radio station where it all started.
