After my daughter Caitlyn died in 2017, I was a mess. I struggled to find help with my grief. I found a therapist because I was contemplating suicide, she managed to help talk me off the ledge, but she was also honest enough to tell me that she could only empathize with me as she had not lost a child. She felt I might be better suited with someone who had gone thru the experience or a group for those who lost a child. I couldnt find a local grief support group. I had to go to the next county over to find a group for parents who lost child. I eventually got some help from a parents group, it helped a bit but was just a sharing of my story month after month with no real direction or actions for moving forward. In the middle of the dessert out in Arizona I read the book the Grief Recovery Method and the light switched on. The book was tremendously helpful with my loss and grief. The back of the book gave information about how to become an instructor of a course based on the book to help others with recovering from grief. I knew I had found something! In March of 2022 I became a certified grief specialist and went on to take additional training to become an advanced specialist and be able to teach the course online.I now help guide others thru grief into grief recovery. I teach how to move away from the pain, isolation and loneliness of their emotional loss and into a space where they can find joy, happiness and meaningfulness again. The grief recovery program teaches specific actions and steps to recover from loss. This can be done one on one or in group online.
