I assisted the Coding for Journalists class which focused on hands-on experience for students to learn about HTML, CSS, and Javascript.I also assisted in the Social Media Journalism class which allowed me to direct students in good social media writing techniques, online branding, interaction, and online storytelling.Finally, I assisted the Digital Storytelling class which focused on journalism on various digital platforms and how undergraduates can utilize social media to tell stories with a digital-first focus.

Texas State University is the fourth largest university in the state of Texas. I worked for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication where I taught two classes at the undergraduate level. The Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media is a large lecture style class which gives students an introduction to a number of digital components, including HTML, Twitter, Wordpress, and iMovie.I also taught Web Design and Publishing, which is a very hands-on computer lab based class that teaches students HTML. The class starts with the basics, moves into CSS, responsive design, Bootstrap, and concludes with a Wordpress site that utilizes data and visual storytelling to showcase a compelling journalism web piece. Finally, I taught Writing for PR, a senior-level undergraduate writing course which teaches soon-to-be graduates how to write professionally in a public relations setting as well as an emphasis on pursuing their careers after graduation.

SXTXState is an elite graduate program at Texas State University offering students the opportunity to attend and cover the annual SXSWi in Austin. Dr. Cindy Royal chooses a handful of students (four my first year, five my second) to write extensive coverage on the events at SXSW.I participated in the event as a digital journalist and videographer my first year, and as a digital journalist and senior editor my second year. I wrote coverage on panels from Al Gore, Edward Snowden, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and George Takei, among many others. I also interviewed soon-to-be Democratic presidential candidate Lawrence Lessig, Alamo Drafthouse CEO Tim League, and teenage cancer research pioneer Jack Andraka, among several other tech and digital entrepreneurs.

County Line on the Lake is a locally-based BBQ chain with stores in Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, and Albuquerque. I was responsible for all social media activity of the restaurant, which mainly focused on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I helped develop and implement a social media strategy and training for new social media managers. Utilizing analytics, I presented a state of the store report at the monthly corporate meetings, where I routinely had the highest numbers for social media traffic.I increased Twitter and Facebook followers approximately 400% during my tenure.

Stanford Caskey is a political opposition research firm that specializes in assisting Democratic candidates. I was responsible for researching candidates' FEC reports, looking for anyone who had donated to the candidate with a digital trail that could damage the candidate. An award for "general awesomeness" was named after me when I left.
