Among my freelance work, I have served as the Art Director of Los Gatos Magazine (4/2016 to 4/2017) and its sister publication, The Good Life Collection; designed a hardcover, national-release book (Whitman Publishing, 2016]; worked for a large international ad agency designing business and collateral materials; and much more. I believe that every design project has a personality waiting to come out. I see each project I undertake as an investigation into that personality and the client's vision. I discover the story that needs to be told and embody it with effective visual representation.

Santa Cruz Waves is a stylish bimonthly surf lifestyle magazine with a circulation of 20,000+. As Creative Director, I ideate and execute all editorial design and layouts (~80 pages per issue). I redesigned the publication upon coming aboard, giving it new life with a clean, striking and dynamic look and feel. My approach is to showcase the incredible photography and stories with arresting layouts that pull readers in. I'm proud to say that we often hear from readers that they keep copies of our magazine displayed on their coffee tables.

As the head of the art department, I prided myself on contributing to our role as the county's most reputable source of community journalism. But good journalism can only make a difference if people read it. That's how I saw my role: every week, I crafted artful and eye-catching covers and cover story layouts that got readers to pick up the issue, become interested in a story, and keep reading until the end. My designs and leadership helped to create a beloved and respected reputation in the community that led to bountiful advertisers and awards. During my time there, I cherished the experience of mentoring and nurturing more than 20 designers.
