I have been a private math tutor since I was in college, starting my own private tutoring business in 1999 that I still run today. I can still say after 20 years that every time a student gets that spark of understanding it makes me happy.Math is a subject that tends to intimidate students even before they have seen any material. I work with all of my students to not only teach them the material, but also to break down those walls of intimidation that math seems to posses. Walking into a math class with a feeling of confidence can make or break your math experience.I do not have a one size fits all approach to teaching math. While the material of each course may remain the same, each student and how they learn is different. My experience allows me to know what the student needs to be successful, while providing many teaching style alternatives to get the material across. I believe that every student should have their learning needs met, and that what may work for one student will not for another.Although the majority of my tutoring has revolved around the math courses offered at Colorado State University, I have also helped many K-12 students. I have worked with home school students as their primary instructor for several years, as well as public school students from ranging from 5th grade to 12th. Since I work with students across all levels, I am able to bring a unique perspective on the skills that they will need to have throughout the entirety of their math career (K thru College). Working with students through multiple courses definitely allows for quality rapport to be made, ideally I am always trying to put myself out of a job and provide the student the skills and confidence to succeed on their own.My philosophy is that not everyone has to love math, but I don't want math to be something that keeps doors of opportunity closed. You can find out more about me, the courses I tutor, my availability, and my rates at my website CSUMathTutor.com

FounderI Want Tutoring! Sep 2024 - PresentIWantTutoring.comConnecting Students Anywhere with Tutors Everywhere. To help better connect students and tutors, I create IWantTutoring.com.Students can list their tutoring requests, and let tutors submit their resumes to them.Tutors can post their resumes, apply to student tutor requests, and create alerts to receive an email when tutoring requests are submitted that fit their area of expertise.Being a professional math tutor has been an amazing career choice for me, and I want to help others make the transition into the field of professional tutoring.Over 27+years in the tutoring industry I have continuously found that there are brilliant people everywhere who would make great tutors. However, those individuals did not know that someone out there was looking for a person with their skill set, did not know how to get started as a tutor, and did not realize that they could make a true career out of being a professional tutor.I have also found that students do not realize that a tutor is not just for people who are falling behind in a course. That quality tutoring can help them expand their knowledge of a subject that they already excel at, and help them go beyond not just get by. What often time holds back students beyond that is they don't know where to begin to look for tutoring. Many schools do not offer a quality list of tutors, especially at the university level where everything is siloed by department. The math department often has a tutor list, but what about accounting or some extremely specific course for just your major.Need a tutor. Find a Tutor. Can you tutor. Be a Tutor. -
Ap Calculus Ab Prep InstructorApcalcprep.Com Aug 2022 - PresentBelieve me, AP Calculus really does not have to be that bad.In my 25 years of tutoring students in AP Calculus, I have seen the use of very heavy math language used in the teaching of calculus is sometimes the biggest barrier to students' learning and understanding.I have worked hard to cut through all of that math speak. My goal is to make the language of AP Calculus accessible to everyone. -

Math Instructor With Access CenterColorado State University May 2015 - Jun 2017Fort Collins, Colorado AreaI developed and taught a math enhancement program for high school students from Brush, CO. The program was developed with a grant as a part of the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative. The purpose of the program is to work with students who struggle with math and assist them in removing math as a barrier. The program I developed included a summer enrichment class, after school peer tutoring, online private tutoring, and ACT/SAT prep classes. The summer enrichment classes were held twice a week for three hours through the entire summer. The classes included some lecture to reinforce core math skills (order of operations, fractions, area, volume) and important math subjects for high school students (linear equations, word problems, probability). They then had the students work on worksheets together as small groups and then share their solutions with the larger group. We also provided time for them to work on core math skills that were gaps in their knowledge. The after school peer tutoring had the students who performed well over the summer volunteer as peer tutors after school for students from the summer courses. This allowed students to learn and teach each other. As well as building the confidence of students who performed well over the summer by rewarding them with additional responsibility to their community.Online tutoring was offered for all students to get additional assistance with their regular math school work. The addition of online tutoring allowed students who had other after school activities (clubs, sports, jobs, family)to receive additional math assistance in the evenings after their other activities were complete. Finally, to help demystify the ACT and SAT tests, I held after school math prep programs for these exams. During these sessions students would work through sample problems and share solutions with the larger group. This was a great way to get them reading and starting to understand how these tests like to form questions. -
