Mogale Alloys is a division of Afarak group. Afarak ferroalloys' business consist of Stellite chrome mine, Mecklenburg mine, Mogale Alloys processing plant and Vlakpoort mine. Mogale operates four furnaces: two submerged arc furnaces and two DC furnaces with a total production of 110 000 tonnes per annum. Sappi was my host company. The internship program was initiated by TT100 and funded by Department of Science and Technology. The position was on an Engineer-in-Training level in the machanical field.

My responsibilities included designing and implementing improvements on the machinery, this would include planning and preparing spares for shut downs. I also managed critical spares and achieved high performance out of them. I interacted with different departments to solve problems and make improvements on the machine.
