Reviewed and contributed to shaping report's final form. WESTERN ORGANIZATION OF RESOURCE COUNCILS: Co-led initiative that assessed how the current oil and gas industry bonding system exposes taxpayers and states to environmental and financial risk, and identified research and policy pathways to strengthen bonding and insurance regulations.CATSKILL MOUNTAIN KEEPER: Co-created ClimateKeeper, a new initiative centered around racial, gender, and economic equity, to get money to environmental justice and community groups more quickly and in greater amounts. Drove planning and coalition-building activity. -
Senior Policy Advocate, Climate Center & Land And Wildlife ProgramNrdc 2010 - 2018New York City Metropolitan AreaDeveloped and led programs and campaigns that cut carbon pollution and changed local and federal policy. Collaborated with diverse stakeholders to develop climate preparedness and public land initiatives. Managed $750,000 budget. Projects included:• Coal Moratorium: Crafted and implemented successful strategy to secure moratorium on federal coal leasing program and initiate overhaul of federal coal sales policy. Co-directed NGO coalition, supervised consultants, won funding, and spurred media investigation into the Obama administration allowing coal leases in Western states. • Supply Side “Dirty Energy:” Co-directed and secured adoption of first formal NRDC policy on fighting fossil fuel extraction. Co-created lobbying strategy opposing new coal, oil and gas extraction, Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminals, and new pipelines. Edited groundbreaking report on lifecycle emissions of LNG exports.• Electric Vehicles and Renewables: Led cross-programmatic initiative to craft comprehensive strategies to expand electric vehicle market and charging network, and promote renewable energy penetration and utility policies. • Urban Climate Preparedness: Convinced Mayor and public/private leadership to have Columbus, OH become second Midwest city to implement comprehensive multi-sector climate vulnerability analysis, sponsored by NOAA. -
Policy AdvocateNatural Resources Defense Council (Nrdc) 2004 - 2010New York City Metropolitan Area• Climate and Water: Co-led groundbreaking campaign to mobilize big city water managers in Western states to factor climate impacts into planning. Co-conceived and organized first summit of water managers and climate scientists that provided useful metrics for infrastructure planning and water resource management. Conceptualized and edited first report ever analyzing climate impacts by county across the US. • Federal Climate Policy: Built support for economy-wide climate legislation by engaging federal policy makers and leaders of important constituencies in key battleground states and in Washington.• Fighting New Coal Plants: Led successful multi-dimensional campaign to stop construction of 5 large coal-fired power plants in NV and VA. Commissioned and edited economic analyses, coordinated 2 NGO coalitions, and raised funds. Designed and executed media campaign that used data showing weak demand for power to make building new coal plants politically unpopular.• Financial Community Outreach: Parlayed knowledge of financial services to help banks develop Carbon Principles, a set of climate investment screens, with CERES, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase and Morgan Stanley. • State Climate Plans: Co-led NRDC participation in multi-stakeholder engagement process to cut carbon pollution in AZ, MT and NM by developing statewide power sector emissions reduction plans. • Climate Change Winter Sports Coalitions: Co-created Keep Winter Cool advocacy campaign, a partnership of NRDC and the National Ski Areas Association to raise public awareness of climate change’s damaging effect on winter sports, and influence policy to address problem. Forged partnership with POW (Protect Our Winters), an influential climate advocacy group created by Winter Olympians and high-profile extreme athletes. -
